Brain Tip of the Week: Understand Your Brainwaves

superheroyou Brain Tip of the Week- Understand Your Brainwaves

In order to become a Kwik Learner, it’s crucial to understand how your brain works so you know how to optimize it. That’s why my Brain Tip of the Week is to understand your brainwaves.

If you hooked your brain up to an EEG, you would see that you go through different brainwave states throughout the day. These ebbs and flows affect how well you do everything, and there are four main categories:

1. Beta brainwaves have a frequency of greater than 40 Hz, and are when you’re most awake and most alert.

2. Alpha brainwaves have a frequency between 13 and 39 Hz. In alpha, you’re in a state of relaxed awareness.

3. Theta brainwaves have a frequency between 7 and 13 Hz, and tend to occur right before you go to sleep. In theta, you’re starting to daydream and be more creative as your imagination kicks in.

4. Delta brainwaves have a frequency of less than 4 Hz and occur when you’re asleep.

Many people have learning challenges because they aren’t spending as much time in these areas as they need to. So pay attention to how you’re feeling throughout the week, and do activities that will help you reach each brainwave state. For example, a lack of creativity could mean you’re not sleeping enough.

And if you want to learn, you want to be in an alpha state — and there are several ways you can do that. One great way is to listen to baroque music, which you can learn more about here.
