Superhero Secrets: Marc Goodman, Part 1

What if a murderer could sequence your exact genome to create a virus designed to kill you? What if someone could spy on you through your TV? What if I could steal all your money via your air conditioner?

It sounds like the basis of a science fiction movie. But this is real life, and it’s coming faster than you think..

Marc Goodman’s book, out tomorrow, is all about the scary future of technology we never talk about: Future Crimes: Everything is Connected, Everyone is Vulnerable and What We Can Do About It. The security expert is afraid, and he thinks we should be too. As our lives revolve increasingly around technology, we constantly expose ourselves to more opportunities for cybercrime – even bringing it into our homes with the Internet of Things. And we have no idea.

Marc aims to change all that.

Future Crimes is not just about the cyberthreat that we face today, but is about what’s coming tomorrow and how we can start to protect ourselves today,” he says in the above video.

Because, according to Marc, security is too important to leave to the professionals. (See the TSA?) How’s that for a terrifying thought!

So what exactly do we need to watch out for? How is the general public already protecting themselves? Watch the video above to find out.

Intrigued? Get Future Crimes (out tomorrow!), learn about Marc, and check back tomorrow to learn Marc’s simple protocol for protecting yourself. And let us know what you thought on Facebook, in the comments or Tweet us @SuperheroYou!
