Superhero Secrets: Alexandra Jamieson

You might remember Alexandra Jamieson as the vegan chef and co-creator of Super Size Me, the 2004 documentary about how fast food affects your body. But a lot has changed in 11 years.

Notably, Alex is no longer a vegan chef. While the diet worked well for her for a decade, she began to have hormonal imbalances and to crave meat. While she fought these cravings for a while, she soon realized that her body was craving animal protein because that was what it needed.

“It was a tough transition because we’re not taught how to listen to our bodies, and we have a lot of rules and restriction around what we eat,” said Alex in our latest episode of #SuperheroSecrets.

While Alex’s diet has changed, her life is still focused around food and nutrition. And she goes into the necessity of listening to our bodies in her latest book: Women, Food and Desire: Embrace Your Cravings, Make Peace with Food, Reclaim Your Body

“I try to dive deep into the root causes of cravings,” Alex said about her new book “There’s 4 causes: bacterial, nutritional, emotional and physical. And we are craving creatures and you can’t be a non-emotional eater, but there are things happening in your body that you don’t always listen to.”
